Meet the Chase Team, a group of 11 athletes balancing big OTQ dreams with real life. Some are chasing their first-ever spot on the Trials starting line, while others are returning to the pursuit after childbirth. The Chase is for the grinders, the early risers, the late-night mileage loggers, and the ones who know they belong on that big stage. We are here to back them with support, community, and the resources they deserve as they go after an OTQ. Check out their stories and follow along with their journeys on their socials.

Billie lives in Utah, with her husband, Kevin, and their three-month-old son. Both athletes on rabbit’s Chase Team, they do their best to balance full-time work, family life, and training. Billie competed for both Weber State University and Utah Tech University and had the opportunity to race at the 2024 Olympic Trials Marathon—an experience that reminded her why she loves chasing big goals and finding balance along the way. After the birth of her first child, she’s excited to keep building and chase the Olympic Trials standard again for 2028.

Running is her passion outside of family and work. A former collegiate runner, she has loved continuing to chase new goals and longer distances post-collegiately. After narrowly missing qualification for the 2024 Olympic Trials with a last-minute attempt following the birth of her twins, she’s now excited to be working toward qualifying again this time around.

Jared Schatz is the men’s assistant cross country and track and field coach at the University of Notre Dame. A lifelong runner, his passion for the sport has evolved into a drive to inspire young men to chase their potential both on and off the course.

After earning All-American honors at Messiah College, Jared began coaching at the University of Central Missouri while completing his master’s in exercise physiology. He went on to spend three years at Florida State before joining the Notre Dame staff, where he is now in his fourth year.

Jared believes the lessons learned through sport translate directly to life. While coaching remains his focus, he continues to pursue his own running goals, having completed three marathons and setting his sights on the 2028 Olympic Trials.

ERIN McDONALD

San Francisco, California
IG:
@sunkisterin

Erin McDonald is a competitive distance runner from Midland, Michigan, currently based in San Francisco, and chasing big dreams on the roads. A former Michigan State University athlete, Erin stepped away from the sport after college and returned four years later with a renewed love for running. Since then, she’s worked her way back to personal bests of 2:36 in the marathon and 4:31 in the mile. Now she’s training for an OTQ attempt at CIM this December, pursuing her fastest self, and proving that stepping away doesn’t mean stepping back.

JANE MILLER

Los Angeles, California
IG:
@janee_miller5

Jane is originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but currently lives in Los Angeles. Her love for sports began growing up with three brothers, and it was her dad who first got her into running in middle school. She continued the sport through high school and college, competing for the Yale women’s cross country and track and field teams and making many of her closest friends on fall golf course runs in New Haven.

After several years on the East Coast, Jane moved to California last fall to begin law school at UCLA. Outside of school, she’s found a great running community and loves exploring Santa Monica coffee shops and logging miles on the beach path with new friends. When she’s not running or studying, she enjoys trying new restaurants, watching college sports, and attempting to surf. Jane ran a massive personal best of 2:37:40 at the Indianapolis Marathon this year, missing the Olympic Trials Qualifying standard by less than a minute. With such a big breakthrough, we know she’s only getting started.

KEVIN KIRK

Ogden, Utah
IG:
@kevin__kirk

Kevin is originally from Yerington, Nevada, and competed collegiately for both Utah Tech and Weber State. He currently runs for the Run Elite Program based in Utah. Kevin holds a marathon personal best of 2:16:33 from the 2024 Twin Cities Marathon and recently ran 1:00:21 for a downhill half marathon in Utah, setting the soil record. Outside of running, Kevin and his wife, Billie, who is also on the Chase Team, welcomed their first child in July. We’re excited to follow both of their journeys to the trials starting line as new parents.

OSCAR VIQUEZ

San Jose, California
IG:
@oscarviquez22

Oscar, a 33-year-old native of San Jose, California, first turned to running as crossover conditioning for boxing in the 125-lb weight class. Tough and small, he quickly found that his build and mindset were well suited for the marathon. An endurance athlete at heart, Oscar also spent years as a dedicated cyclist, completing numerous century and double-century rides, earning a strong following on Strava and Instagram along the way.

Unlike many competitive runners, Oscar never ran in high school or college and instead entered the workforce after leaving college early. He ran his first marathon in 2011, finishing in just over 3 hours and 30 minutes, but began pursuing the sport more seriously about four years ago.

Both of Oscar’s parents are from Nicaragua, and although he was born in the United States, his current marathon time would surpass the Nicaraguan national record by more than a minute—a testament to his remarkable growth and determination as a self-made athlete.

Outside of running, Zacch works as a system administrator and technical lead for the State of Michigan’s Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, supporting DHHS. When he’s not training or racing, he enjoys karaoke, paddleboarding, dancing, and spending time with friends and family.
