What started as a “let’s see who shows up” idea has turned into something pretty wild:

120+ runners

17,908 segments run

4,200+ total miles logged

(and counting as of January 29)

Turns out we all like running and burritos—a little more than we realized.

Burrito League right here in Santa Barbara.

rabbit sponsors a Burrito League location in our hometown of Santa Barbara, California. For those out of the loop, the Burrito League is a Strava-based endurance challenge where runners repeatedly run the same 0.23 mile segment over and over again. At the end of the 3-week challenge, the runner who has run the most segments wins a year’s worth of free burritos. With the segment only being a hop, skip and jump away from our office, we decided to dive deeper into the magic of the Burrito League.

When we decided to sponsor a local league, the goal was simple: create something fun that brings runners together. What’s happened since has been bigger than we ever imagined.

“The real heart of the Burrito League isn’t the leaderboard, it’s the people. I’ve met runners on the Burrito League segment that I never would’ve crossed paths with otherwise. I’ve watched PRs fall, mileage milestones get shattered, and total strangers turn into training partners. It’s created a shared experience where runners can show up, get miles in, and genuinely encourage one another.” - Sam Marks (rabbit Community & Events manager)

One example is local runner Morgan, who recently ran her first-ever 100-mile week and continues to show up day after day with a smile and endless enthusiasm. Others have run farther than they ever thought possible. Burrito League has created space for runners of all backgrounds and paces to push themselves and to do it together.

Another runner who perfectly embodies the spirit of Burrito League is John. When asked what keeps him showing up for big efforts, he said “I want to keep exploring and see what else I can learn.” That mindset showed up in a huge way when he went out and ran 52.52 miles—a nod to the 52 burritos on the line

And a special shoutout to rabbit's very own Product Associate, Manny. Between long days building the gear we all love, he’s been out there consistently logging 100-mile weeks, often running twice a day, and doing it all with a smile on his face. With Manny’s birthday falling in January, he even graciously brought Burrito Leaguers cupcakes, celebrating his birthday by running 20 miles on the SB Burrito League Segment.

As of January 29, he’s sitting in 2nd place with over 385 miles, proving that hard work and fun don’t have to be separate things.

In 1st place is Preston, another Santa Barbara legend! Since the Burrito League kicked off on Jan 8th at midnight, he’s been leading the charge - logging 485 miles so far and inspiring all of us to push further than we thought possible. And when he’s not running the segment? He’s crushing the trails.

The last day of the challenge is tomorrow, Saturday, January 31st at 11:59PM PST. If you’re local, come on out to log miles on the segment and meet some incredible people.
