How did you feel when you qualified? What was that experience like? This is my 3rd time to qualify for an Olympic Trials Marathon (2016, 2020), but this one is special as I truly feel like I’m being blessed with “extra innings” in my racing career at 42 years old! To be running at this level as a young Masters runner is a thrill - I knew that hitting another OTQ at Chicago was a good possibility with how well my buildup went, but to get to execute my race plan almost perfectly and compete well in the last 10k is a rare feat (especially with an unplanned extra week of taper after Twin Cities Marathon was unexpectedly canceled last minute). This is somewhat of a “Comeback Tour” for me as my last marathon was Atlanta 2020, so it feels great to be back in the game and competing again (with a new younger crowd!).
What dream are you chasing at the Trials? 2024 will be extra special as my 3 young kids get to be part of this Olympic adventure and cheer on Dad in Orlando! The dream for me is another healthy and consistent buildup leading up to February 3 in order to finish as high as possible and lead the way for rabbitELITE in what is very likely my final Olympic Trials Marathon. “One moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory” ~Louis Zamperini
