To our rabbit community,
One of rabbit’s key pillars is supporting a diverse community of Runners and Dreamers of all abilities and levels. Our intention is to be as inclusive as possible, bonded by the love of running. Yet, the pain erupting in the streets across the nation gives us pause to re-examine our understanding of inclusion.
Our beloved rabbit community has grown organically over the years. It is difficult and sad to understand that for some of our community members, the color of their skin can mean a simple run has the potential to be a life-threatening activity due to centuries of ingrained systemic racism and police violence. We cannot pretend to know what that feels like. We know that Black communities deserve better, deserve equality, and deserve justice. Because of this, we feel it’s time to self-reflect and ask ourselves: Are we actively cultivating an environment of diversity and inclusiveness? Are we amplifying BIPOC voices? Are we being active allies?
As a first step, we want to be clear in our convictions:
- We believe Black Lives Matter
- To not be racist is not enough. We need to elevate ourselves to be actively anti-racist.
- We stand in solidarity with those in our community who are suffering and grieving the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many other victims of racism and injustice.
In training, we know that acknowledging and settling into discomfort is where transformation happens. This is the space in which we become stronger. It’s time to put this into practice in a different way. We are committed to channeling our collective grief into developing a road map that supports our convictions. We are beginning this work by doing research, educating ourselves and our team, and having difficult conversations about race and racism.
We all have a role we can play in rebuilding systems built on oppression, and we must actively do our part. As a gesture of our commitment, we are supportingCampaign Zero,Southern Poverty Law Center, andBlack Women’s Health Imperative with a $1000 donation each. In the coming weeks and months, we look forward to sharing more information on the resources, conversations, and action items we’ll be implementing within rabbit to continue this work.
We are open to listening and supporting, and invite you to share your feedback with us.
In empathy,
Jill, Monica and The rabbit Team
